Harley Davidson After Market Radio

When you buy an after market radio for a Harley Davidson motorcycle, there are a few things to keep in mind. You will need to know how many ohms your speaker outputs are, which adapter you will need, and how to open your fairing. Read on my good man, for the knowledge you seek lies herein.

Harley Davidson radios usually utilize 2 or 8 ohm speaker outputs. The speakers themselves are usually 5.25”. This is true for the 1998-2008 Harley Davidson motorcycles. Now, as for an adapter. Most after market radios for your Harley Davidson motorcycle have the appropriate adapter available with the radio. Sony has its own. So does Sirius. Actually, so does every other after market out there. They are different from each other, but will fit your Harley. Opening the fairing is wicked easy. There are seven Torx head screws. Three on the windshield and two behind the hand grips. I almost forgot to mention the two in the middle of the forks. You will need a T27 Torx head for the job. Be careful with the headlight. It would probably work best if you unplugged it before you pulled the fairing too hard and ripped the wires out. You can find everything you need on the Internet or at your local Harley shop.

Replacing your radio with an after market radio for Harley Davidson motorcycle is very simple. All you need is some information and the right tools. Both are available from Harley Davidson. Grab a manual and the driver set that came with your bike and you will be in business.

I just bought a 2006 road glide. What a fantastic machine. The radio occasionally just upon starting the bike will light up with the radio station, or disc player showing it is working, but the volume, and any other hand controls and the front buttons on the radio are non responsive.
The radio also does not play in this mode. It looks like it is operating. If the radio was on, it shows the artist and station being played but no sound comes out and the volume control or any other controls do not respond. I shut the ignition off and then back on either one or two times and the radio responds fine. It does not do this all the time.
    What are your thoughts. Thanks.

i have a 2001 flhtc. it sat over the winter in mich, after i spent 2 years in FL, [salt air] now it has a loud hum and 2 out of 4 speakers work, the check engine light flashes fast 16 times and the light fuse,15 amp is so hot it melted. my manual told me to do some ohm test on the speakers and the flow chart said the radio has a short in it. or do you think it could have a bad ground between the radio and the ECM, i unpluged the radio and the engine light went out.

I have a 2012 Harley Davidson FLTCU Ultra Classic. I would like to add XM radio to the existing Harmon Kardon radio on the bike. Harley has the receiver for the tidy sum of 400.00 I am not ready to pay 400.00 for a receiver. I don’t care who’s name is on it.

Is there an adapter out there that I can utilize with a universal XM receiver?

    Thanks in advance

    Jack
