1965 Harley Davidson Scooter

July 23, 2008

With gas prices at a budget busting high there’s lots of interest in gas saving scooters. Did you know that Harley Davidson briefly dabbled in the scooter market? In 1965 Harley Davidson scooter, nick-named the “Topper”, ended its brief production run. These scooters used some technology from the 1930s and some that is still in use today.

The 1965 Harley Davidson scooter was based on the DKW RT125. The drawings for the RT 125 were taken from the Germans as World War II reparations. It was also the base for several British and Russian motorbikes. The “Topper” used a continuously variable transmission(CVT). Most scooters use that transmission to this day. The CVT allows for greater fuel economy because it enables the engine to run at its most efficient RPMs over a range of vehicle speeds. Also, this transmission has very few problems. Fewer problems leads to lower costs for the owner.

The 1965 Harley Davidson scooter ran on a 165cc single cylinder, two stroke engine that burned an oil/gas mixture. These engines never had an electric start. They used a rope-recoil system like a lawnmower. To further increase fuel economy, the “Topper” was made as light as possible. The floor, front fender, and body were made of stamped steel, but the engine cover and main body were fiberglass.

The 1965 Harley Davidson scooter, the “Topper” could have been ridden to work for a week at the whopping total cost of $1. Gas was 31 cents a gallon and a quart of oil was even cheaper. Today these great collectors items are hardly ever ridden, but they bring back memories for all that see them.

2006 Harley Davidson Brake Pads

July 23, 2008

Before you replace your 2006 Harley Davidson brake pads, you will need a little information. You should know if you have a sinter rotor or a polished rotor, this will affect which pads you buy. Your owners manual should tell you which one you have. Inside these categories are guides to what type of performance you can expect from each pad.

When you are looking for 2006 Harley Davidson brake pads you want to get the right pads for your bike. To help, many companies offer a quick guide to tell you what conditions the pads will perform best under. The ST designation gives a higher performance and a longer pad life. P means that the pads will have a cooler running temperature and cause less wear on the rotor. PRP are to be used on polished rotors, like those on show bikes. These pads were designed to minimize material deposits from the brake pads to the rotors, thus reducing smears and pitting. They do all of that while maintaining their stopping power. These brake pads range in price from $21.00(U.S.), for an organic pad set, to $40.00(U.S.) for a sinter grip pad set. While Harley equipment is best, Ferodo offers some really great products online.

Considering everything that is depending on your 2006 Harley Davidson brake pads, you will want to keep the correct, and best performing, equipment on your bike. If you do not want to go with original Harley Davidson parts, then there are dozens of manufacturers to choose from on the Internet.

Free Harley Davidson Backgrounds

July 22, 2008

What does every computer using Harley guy need? A few free Harley Davidson backgrounds for his desktop, that’s what. You have to be careful though, there are some scam sites out there offering these backgrounds. A little protection goes a long way.

When you hit your search engine with “free Harley Davidson backgrounds” you are going to get over a half a million hits. Not all of these sites are safe. Some will even attach a virus to the photo file you download. The next question is how to know the good from the bad. Most of the virus protection software out there will check the sites before you click on them. AVG puts a green star, with a check mark inside of it, beside the site before you browse. Even better, is the fact that AVG is free.

Next, you have to decide which free Harley Davidson backgrounds you want. GOOD LUCK! There must be ten million different photos available. Anything from custom jobs to panheads. Knuckleheads to the scooter Harley made in the 60s. Not that very many people want to see that one. Some of them can be used on your MySpace page. Check out basehead.org or skin.bz for some really sweet wallpapers.

The free Harley Davidson backgrounds you end up with are not nearly as important as searching the web, safely. Keep your virus protection updated and know the sites you are going to. At least, trust your virus software. Above all else, enjoy your Harley pictures.

2006 Ford F150 Harley Davidson

July 22, 2008

In 2006 two motoring icons joined together to create a monolith of Americana. The 2006 Ford F-150 Harley Davidson turned up the heat with street rod appeal that got many guys engines running and flew off the dealers lots as quick as they came in.

The 2006 Ford Harley Davidson F150 expands the legacy of toughness of Ford while showing the custom elegance of a Harley Davidson. This collaboration began in 1999. Since then there have been four F-150 models as well as F-250 and F-350 vehicles. There have been a total of 7 offerings from this dynamic union.

The 2006 Ford F-150 Harley Davidson is in a monotone black and it sits on double-deuce polished forged aluminum wheels. The interior has a rich black aniline leather seating area and a high gloss, dark black detailing with lots of chrome. The shiny does not stop there. The chrome billet grill really sets off the black exterior and the blacked out headlights. Running down the belt-line is a red stripe outlined in electric blue that is highlighted by the Harley Davidson script. The polished 22’s sport the Bar and Shield on the center cap. Just thinking about it makes you want to hit the gas.

There were only 10,000 2006 Ford F-150 Harley Davidson trucks scheduled for production. The limited number of available trucks makes this a highly prized collectors vehicle. Its collectibility will not stop you from wanting to put your foot into the 300 horsepower engine. The 365 foot pounds of torque will sit you back in your seat, with a smile.
