1997 Harley Davidson flhtc factory specifications

June 27, 2008

All you want is one website where you can find the 1997 Harley Davidson flhtc factory specifications that you need. What do you get? About 12,000 different hits that lead you to a few bites of information here and a few more over there. Most of them cover one subject at a time, nothing was really in depth.

As you search for info on the 1997 Harley Davidson flhtc factory specification, you will find several references to the manuals produced by Clymar. These manuals are recommended by about two dozen of the top ranked sites. They are in depth and easy to understand. Some of the other sites will give you specs on the air filter, others will talk about oil filters, and still others will help you with the spark plugs and gaping information.

I wish I could give you better info on the overall 1997 Harley Davidson factory specifications, but I could not find it. I would recommend buying a manual from some one to get all of the specifications you will need to maintain your bike.

How to do an Oil Change for Harley Davidson

June 24, 2008

Some of the Harley Davidson models have a few quirks about them when it comes to an oil change. This article will take you through an oil change for Harley Davidson Sportster. You would be sitting in front of your computer all day if all of the steps were included for every model. When I tried to do an oil change for my Harley Davidson, I thought this article might be needed by the other do-it-yourselfers out there.

The Sportster has a dry sump arrangement. That means that all of the oil is in a reservoir(oil bag) on the side of the bike. The oil sump sits outside of the oil bag. The pump circulates the oil through the engine and back into the bag. The primary chain reservoir is a little different because it does not have a filling hole nor a sight glass.

There are eleven basic steps to do on an oil change for Harley Davidson.

1. Ride your bike for a few miles to warm the oil. If your bike has sat for a few days the oil will settle in the engine and not be drained when you empty the oil bag. Also, warm oil flows easier.

2. Get you tools together. You are going to need a drain pan, flat head screw-driver, and a filter wrench. If this is the first time you have changed the oil yourself, the filter could be over tightened. After this you should be able to loosen the filter by hand.

3. Put the bike on the side stand, put the drain pan under your bike close to the rear wheel, and find the drain hose. The free end will have a plug that doubles as a clip to hold it to the frame.

4. Use the screw-driver to remove the hose clamp and move it past the plug.

5. Pinch the hose tightly and remove the plug. Tip it into the drain pan. Be careful, the oil will burn you. Remove the filter cap to speed up the flow of the oil.

6. Once the oil flow slows to a drip, straddle the bike and stand it up. The flow should start again, then slow again.

7. Lean the bike back onto the side stand. It will drain some more. Wait until the flow stops.

8. Put the plug back into the hose. Do not tighten the clamp yet. You will get back to it in a minute.

9. Put the drain pan under the filter and remove it.

10. Clean off the filter seat, fill the new filter with oil, coat the filter seat with oil, and put the new filter on your bike. Hand tighten only. When the gasket seats there will not be any leaking. On the off chance that there is, turn the filter about an 1/8 of a turn. That should seal it up.

11. Put the pan back under the drain hose. A little more oil should come out. When this flow stops, plug the hose, clamp it tight, then clip it back to your bike. Refill the oil bag.

After you follow all of these steps you will have a little bit of clean up left to do. There might be a few drops of oil on your bike. Clean them off with a rag them hose it down. As far as I can tell this is the easiest way to do an oil change for the Harley Davidson Sportster.

Harley Davidson Emissions

June 23, 2008

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) believes that motorcycles emit 16-21 times more hydrocarbons than automobiles. Harley Davidson emissions, as well as those of nearly every other bike sold in America, were among those studied. The difference is directly linked to the lack of an elaborate emissions control system on motorcycles.

In order to reduce motorcycle emissions the EPA has decided to adopt the California emission levels known as CARB. The standards are the strictest in the nation. One bright spot in the California law is that the burden of reducing the emissions is on the manufacturer of the engine, not the company that assembles the bike. Harley Davidson emission experts are pushing for the EPA to adopt this point of view as well. One of the biggest questions in the debate is why are motorcycles being focused on. They produce0.3% of all hydrocarbons released and less than 0.1% of all emissions in the country. The real concentration, considering todays fuel prices, should be the fuel economy of motorcycles as well as the fact that they produce a low percentage of todays pollution.

When thinking about lowering Harley Davidson emissions, or any other motorcycle company for that matter, is the cost. The EPA has overlooked the impact or implementation costs, and rider safety, on the future sales of motorcycles. Some companies have estimated that the costs would cause the price of the average motorcycle to jump 30% or more. Score another victory for big government and its regulations that cater to the tree-hugging minority.

Harley Davidson 2001 fxdp

June 20, 2008

The Harley Davidson 2001 fxdp is a variation of the 2001 Harley Davidson FXD Dyna. The FXDP is produced for the police forces around the country. These Dynas have several differences from the stock models. Most are obviously needed for police work: sirens, PA system, air horn, etc, but a few are not so obvious.

The Harley Davidson 2001 fxdp Defender has a different seat. Saddlebags, windshield, pursuit lights, footboards, radio mounting bracket, fuel tank, fuel tank console, rear marker lamps, pole lamp, siren, PA system, siren/speaker mounting bracket, handlebars, and about twenty more pieces of additional equipment that makes it stand out from the other Dynas made in 2001. One of the better differences is the front master cylinder and related parts that gives this bike a stronger braking system. You can supplement your service manual with the 2001 fxdp service manual supplement (H-D part number 99481-01SP). The service information for the engine, electric stater, drive train, and transmission are the same for the FXDP as any other FXD.

You are not going to be able to get the sirens and so forth when you buy a Harley Davidson 2001 fxdp. What you will get is a great, beefed up bike with a powerful engine, comfortable ride, and stronger braking system than other Dynas produced in the same year.

Harley Davidson Bikini Girls

June 13, 2008

There are four things most men look forward to on the weekends: bikes, babes, booze, and football. The only other thing that might cross their minds is how to combine multiple aspects of these into one activity. How about a Harley Davidson bikini girl contest? Go that one better. A Harley Davidson bikini girl contest in the parking lot of your favorite sports bar. There you have it: bikes, babes, booze, and football, all at the same time.

Harley Davidson motorcycle shops are teaming up with sports bars across the country to bring these contests to the public. Hooters has gotten in on the madness in Florida with dozens of contestants gracing their parking lots. Several local Harley shops are roping in the crowds in Texas. Harley Davidson bikini girl contests are springing up from California to New Jersey, Ohio to Minnesota. Some of the top professional modeling agencies send their bikini models to large Harley events. Whiskey Girls and Hawaiian Tropic have sent some of their best talent to mingle with the crowds and strut on stage. Blondes, brunettes, and red-heads, oh my!

You are probably asking yourself why a beautiful woman, with $5000 breasts, would rock her stuff in front of a bunch of grizzled men in leathers. Because it is Harley, baby! Can you think of a better reason than a chance to join the ranks of the Harley Davidson bikini girls? I can not think or one either. One probably does not exist.

Harley Davidson After Market Radio

June 13, 2008

When you buy an after market radio for a Harley Davidson motorcycle, there are a few things to keep in mind. You will need to know how many ohms your speaker outputs are, which adapter you will need, and how to open your fairing. Read on my good man, for the knowledge you seek lies herein.

Harley Davidson radios usually utilize 2 or 8 ohm speaker outputs. The speakers themselves are usually 5.25”. This is true for the 1998-2008 Harley Davidson motorcycles. Now, as for an adapter. Most after market radios for your Harley Davidson motorcycle have the appropriate adapter available with the radio. Sony has its own. So does Sirius. Actually, so does every other after market out there. They are different from each other, but will fit your Harley. Opening the fairing is wicked easy. There are seven Torx head screws. Three on the windshield and two behind the hand grips. I almost forgot to mention the two in the middle of the forks. You will need a T27 Torx head for the job. Be careful with the headlight. It would probably work best if you unplugged it before you pulled the fairing too hard and ripped the wires out. You can find everything you need on the Internet or at your local Harley shop.

Replacing your radio with an after market radio for Harley Davidson motorcycle is very simple. All you need is some information and the right tools. Both are available from Harley Davidson. Grab a manual and the driver set that came with your bike and you will be in business.

1957 Harley – The Harley Sposrtster the Most Sought After Collectible Motorcycle in the World today!

June 13, 2008

For nearly 105 years Harley Davidson has been producing impressive motorcycles. One of the longest running production models is the Sportster. It was introduced in 1957. Today it is one of the most sought after collectible motorcycles in the world. 1957 Harley Davidson for sale ads proliferate on the Internet. At last check there were 373,000 hits for that keyword search. Some of them are for models, others for manuals, but most are for 1957 Harley Davidson’s that you can bring home to love and cherish.

What prompts people to find a 1957 Harley Davidson for sale? Well, the Sportster was introduced that year. It was a much anticipated upgrade in performance and speed over the older K series bikes. Those had been quite disappointing in the speed department. The Sportster was pretty much the same bike as the KH models except for the overhead valves on a 55 cubic-inch V-twin engine, two-tone paint, and a new tank badge. Although the Sportster was not the only model that Harley Davidson was producing at the time, it was the only one that they revamped that year.

If you are looking for a 1957 Harley Davidson for sale, you can find anything you want on the Internet in a few seconds. After eliminating all of the hits for models, you will find thousands of bikes for sale, in several countries. They can get a little on the expensive side. The price can range can be from $15,000(U.S.) to well over $100,000(U.S.) depending on the rarity, condition, and provenance of the bike. I found dozens of Customs, Panheads, FLHs, and Sportsters. You can find older bikes if you prefer the WLAs or Knuckleheads.

Whatever your preference, finding a 1957 Harley Davidson for sale is a simple labor of love. If you need one, you can find a manual and spare parts just as easy. Most of these ads come with some beautiful photos for all of the window shoppers out there.

Harley Davidson Diesel Conversion – 100 mph and over 80 Miles per Gallon!

June 13, 2008

Getting a Harley Davidson to run on diesel fuel has been a goal of many projects over the years. Most developers add a diesel engine and call it quits; however a group of retired engineers came up with a diesel conversion for Harley Davidson motorcycles.

They started with a 1988 FXRS and a standard V-twin engine and , viola, a diesel conversion of a Harley Davidson was born. The goal of the group of developers was to improve engine technology for the American military, but it could become the nation’s first turbocharged, diesel-powered motorcycle available to everyday riders. The bike has the potential to top 100mph and get over 80 mpg. With todays fuel prices, those are hard to resist numbers.

As of February 2008, the project was being looked over by the military and Harley Davidson for possible mass production. Since several of the engineers who developed the bike retired from Harley, maybe they will pick it up. A diesel conversion Harley Davidson is about as much as anyone could hope for.
